The focus of this article is basically going to be on some things you could do to become a stand-up comedian.

Rough start

At the start of your journey, you are not going to get a lot of money from your comedy. So you need to find another job that will keep you engaged you during the day so that you can earn money to pay the bills and handle other issues.

Putting yourself out there

Clear your diary and prepare yourself for taking on your first stand-up performance. As they say, practice makes perfect. Search for a local events venue that has a comedy night and either allows people to stand-up or lets you book in a time to get on stage.

To prepare your first attempt make sure you check out a few comedy gigs at comedy clubs close to you. Your goal should be to learn or absorb as much comedy as possible. Even more, you can attend a comedy show in your area and learn from the experts. Look out for things they do that make what they say funnier.

In order for you to succeed in comedy, you first need to have an act. It is also important that you set aside time to absorb comedy. You can choose to read a book, watch a movie or attend a comedy event. Your goal here should be to have at least 20 min of new content.

One thing you should never do is to copy someone. Try to be unique. Only do things that you consider funny.

Another thing you should try to avoid is second-guessing yourself or trying to assume what your audience is going to find appealing.  You will have ample time to figure out what your audience is going to like in the future. For now, your focus should solely be on how you are going to improve your skills and get better.

When you are confident enough, you should market yourself and spread the word out there. And before you know it you will become a pro stand up comedian.
